Hampi

Boulder-strewn hills cradle the ghost capital of Vijayanagara, where stone chariots and riverside temples face the Tungabhadra.

Rent bicycles or mopeds for scattered ruins; sunrise at Matanga Hill is iconic. Coracle rides cross gentle rapids near hippie enclaves across the river. October–February balances temperature; summer is scorching on granite. Respect ASI zones—no drones without permission. Badami and Pattadakal extend Chalukyan heritage nearby. Carry cash; ATMs are limited in the village.
